Breast Milk, Epigenetics, Quantum Physics, Matrix Energetics and ideas about Nature and Natural Laws

August 8, 2010

Ralph Havens

Studying the scientific literature over the years, specifically the health, nutrition, and medical studies one thing becomes clear.  We really don’t know what is going on or why it’s going on.  Some examples come from the world of genetics and epigenetics.  Years ago after the discovery of the DNA helix and genes, scientists proclaimed that DNA was in charge of what our bodies and lives looked like.  The covering of protein around the DNA helix was discarded and thought to have no function!  Now with epigenetics, scientists have found that the protein sleeve plays a huge role in how DNA expresses itself and the lowly cell membrane is actually more important in how DNA expresses itself than the DNA itself.  This field epigenetics is opening our eyes to the potential of how we perceive and interact with our environment and the power we have to control our lives and health through our perceptions and our environment.

Recently in the New York Times I came across a great article of a discovery about Breast Milk and another example of how scientists thought something in nature had no use or value and how now we see it has a huge value.  I printed two paragraphs from the article below:

Breast Milk Sugars Give Infants a Protective Coat  from The New York Times Sunday

By NICHOLAS WADE

Published: August 2, 2010

The complex sugars (in Breast Milk)  were long thought to have no biological significance, even though they constitute up to 21 percent of milk. Besides promoting growth of the bifido strain, they also serve as decoys for noxious bacteria that might attack the infant’s intestines. The sugars are very similar to those found on the surface of human cells, and are constructed in the breast by the same enzymes. Many toxic bacteria and viruses bind to human cells by docking with the surface sugars. But they will bind to the complex sugars in milk instead. “We think mothers have evolved to let this stuff flush through the infant,” Dr. Mills said.

Later in the article:

The proteins in (breast) milk also have special roles. One, called Alpha-lactalbumin, can attack tumor cells and those infected by viruses by restoring their lost ability to commit cell suicide. The protein, which accumulates when an infant is weaned, is also the signal for the breast to remodel itself back to normal state.

Such findings have made the three researchers keenly aware that every component of milk probably has a special role. “It’s all there for a purpose, though we’re still figuring out what that purpose is,” Dr. Mills said. “So for God’s sake, please breast-feed.”

Here’s the link to the story:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/03/science/03milk.html?src=me&ref=general

My take on this:

Now When I read that a scientist finds “no value” to something found in nature, I see that this scientist is not reading his or her own scientific history.  As scientists and health care practitioner,s we need to be keenly aware that we really don’t know why something is there or  what are all the uses for something.  We need to treat our clients with awe and respect for what their bodies are doing and the innate wisdom of the body and of nature.

This is a reason after studying Physical Therapy and Integrative Manual Therapy, and many other methods for 25 years, I am now using Matrix Energetics as a way to interact with the world, and my clients. With Matrix Energetics we drop into the space of the heart, which quantum physics may have information about and describe as the space called Dark Matter and Dark Energy ( meaning invisible or unseen).   Physicist David Bohm, PhD and others state that in once cubic centimeter of this Dark Matter there is more energy than in the entire Known Universe!

So by having respect for Nature and knowing that we really may not have access to much real knowledge and we may not really know the big picture, I can drop into the space between the spaces; the space between thoughts, the still point and access this Dark Matter, this infinite power and let go of a need to know.  Then by placing intent and letting go, I can see how nature would shift a pattern or a condition for my client.  I can observe with awe and respect Nature and the Universe shift the outcome and the reality for my client.  I can observe the miracle!

I feel this consciousness technology, Matrix Energetics, is the way we can all start to access a deeper knowing and not depend on scientists especially when they tell us that something in nature is not useful or has not purpose.  And instead of using drugs that we see on T.V. that claim to offer help for a condition but then list a laundry list of side effects.  When I see drug ads on T.V. in becomes clear to me that these people making the drugs, promoting them, and using them have no idea what they are doing or what impact they are having.  Nature may have a better idea how to help in these cases. Matrix Energetics can help by accessing the power of the universe, the dark matter, and help bring the power and miracle of nature into the equation.

If you would like to experience or read more about Matrix Energetics or Quantum physics I’ve included some references below.  Please feel free to email me or call us and we can help you get more information.

MVA – whiplash treatment options – Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, Alternative Medicine, Energy Medicine, Matrix Energetics, Integrative Manual Therapy, Massage Therapy

July 13, 2010

After a motor vehicle accident, ( whiplash ) which type of treatment is best for you?  I have listed common and some uncommon treatment options.  What are the usual course of action after a car wreck and is there a better way for you?

Chiropractic

Chiropractic is an alternative medical system. It takes a different approach from standard medicine in treating health problems.

The basic concepts of chiropractic are

  • Your body has a powerful self-healing ability
  • Your body’s structure (mainly the spine) and its function are related
  • The goal of chiropractic therapy is to normalize this relationship

Chiropractic professionals are doctors of chiropractic, or D.C.s. They use a type of hands-on therapy called spinal manipulation or adjustment. Many people visit chiropractors for treatment of low back pain.

NIH: National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine

The adjustments ( high velocity manipulations) are direct stretching techniques.  After a motor vehicle accident which is basically a high velocity injury, the muscle spindle of the spinal muscles is turned up resulting in spasms.  High velocity techniques such as chiropractic adjustments further activate the muscle spindle and can actually cause a whiplash type effect.  When getting any manual therapy it is a good idea to test and re-test range of motion and pain levels to determine if the treatment did something beneficial for the client.  Just because it “pops” doesn’t mean it’s fixed.  Checking how you move and feel after the treatment is key to seeing if this option works for you.

Physical Therapy

Basic Physical Therapy involves modalities such as Heat, Ice, Ultrasound, Electrical Stimulation and exercises to ease pain and restore movement and function.  Orthopedic Certified Specialists are trained in direct and indirect techniques to treat muscles, fascia and joints as well as neural tension.  My experience is that the indirect techniques work best; such as strain-counterstrain technique because as you put the injured areas on slack the muscle spindle is turned down and reset at a more comfortable resting length.  Again, testing and retesting pain, range of motion and function immediately after treatment is the best way to determine if this method is working for you.

Alternative Treatment Options are many and varied.  A partial list follows:

Reiki –

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

QiGong

Wisdom Healing Qigong is the translation of Zhineng Qigong in China.

“If you want to be healthy and live to 100, do QiGong.”
This was how Dr. Oz responded on November 1,  2007 during an interview with Oprah when he was asked out of all the health practices that one could do, what was the one practice that he would choose and recommend people practice to stay healthy. He added that Qigong reverses the aging process.

“As millions of people in China have already discovered, Qigong essentially reverses the aging process, while reducing stress, preventing illness, curing disease, and enhancing the overall quality of life.”
Master Mingtong Gu

QiGong is something I’ve practiced for years and I’ve found it amazingly effective in treatment of problems related to whiplash.  The one thing that qigong does that other methods don’t do well is helping someone tap into the “why did I have this accident”  Many times the universe is tapping at the door and giving a wake up call.  QiGong taps into the universal energy and can aid in healing on the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and other etheric levels.  I highly recommend this method to anyone for any condition.

Massage Therapy –

Massage is one of the oldest healing arts: Chinese records dating back 3,000 years document its use; the ancient Hindus, Persians and Egyptians applied forms of massage for many ailments; and Hippocrates wrote papers recommending the use of rubbing and friction for joint and circulatory problems. Today, the benefits of massage are varied and far-reaching. As an accepted part of many physical rehabilitation programs, massage therapy has also proven beneficial for many chronic conditions, including low back pain, arthritis, bursitis, fatigue, high blood pressure, diabetes, immunity suppression, infertility, smoking cessation, depression, and more. And, as many millions will attest, massage also helps relieve the stress and tension of everyday living that can lead to disease and illness.

I see the benefits of massage daily as I have many massage therapists as friends.  Reading thru the massage therapy journals and The Burnham Review I see that massage therapy is highly studied in medical journals and has been shown to be effective in the treatment of ailments from whiplash. Again, I recommend some of the more indirect techniques such as tuina and shiatsu but for chronic and long term problems there is a place for the more direct structural integration or Rolfing techniques.

Integrative Manual Therapy

IMT developed by Sharon Giammatteo PT, PhD has helped thousands of people from chronic conditions including ailments from whiplash and motor vehicle accidents.  IMT uses indirect techniques to assess and treat causes of the problem which could be as varied as joint, muscle, nerve as well as organs, arteries, veins, and lymph vessels and nodes as well as mental, emotional and spiritual reasons someone is still hurting.  I would recommend finding a therapist who is certified in IMT and has the designation of IMTC.  For more info on IMT www.centerIMT.com and www.missionhillspt.com

Matrix Energetics

Matrix Energetics is an amazing healing and transformation modality that works in the expression of subtle energy physics and the concepts and laws of quantum physics, superstring theory and Rupert Sheldrake’s Morphic Resonance. It was invented by Dr. Richard Bartlett, D.C., N.D., who is both a chiropractor and a naturopath.  This is the technology I now use for clients and others who are looking for true transformation on all levels; physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and other.  With motor vehicle accidents and whiplash in particular, if a client has had the condition for a while and tried other techniques without help, Matrix Energetics is a way I’ve found that can shift them and get them back to healing.  We’ve got a newsletter describing it in detail at www.missionhillspt.com/newsletters and more information can be found at www.matrixenergetics.com; other information can be found on other posts on this blog www.missionhillspt.wordpress.com

Gluten Sensitivity – Dr. Mark Hyman – From The Huffington Post

January 3, 2010

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mark-hyman/gluten-what-you-dont-know_b_379089.html

This is a very well documented and referenced article by Dr. Mark Hyman on gluten sensitivity and how it can masquerade as a number of ailments and diseases; over 55 diseases recognized by the American Medical Association as having links to gluten sensitivity.  If you or anyone you know has any of these conditions please pass it along to them;  You could save their life.  Gluten sensitivity has been linked to a 30+% increase in death in the medical literature.

Here’s a partial list of conditions caused by gluten sensitivity:

osteoporosis, irritable bowel disease, inflammatory bowel disease, anemia, cancerfatigue, canker sores, (v) and rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, and almost all other autoimmune diseases. Gluten is also linked to many psychiatric (vi) and neurological diseases, including anxietydepression, (vii) schizophrenia, (viiidementia, (ix)migraines, epilepsy, and neuropathy (nerve damage). (x) It has also been linked to autism.(ix)

For more information please email me and I can send you more research and sources.

my QiGong success story – with special thanks to Sharon Giammatteo PT, PhD

October 9, 2009

My first introduction to QiGong came a few years ago when my friend Patty told me I should go to the Tibetan Healing Center in Hillcrest http://www.tibetanacademy.org/ because Master Ming Tong Gu was doing something called a “healing circle”. Well, after a few weeks of encouragement from Patty, I finally made it.  I felt such overwhelming energy, I had to leave half way through the event.  I wasn’t sure what was happening but I wasn’t sure it was good for me.  It was a feeling I hadn’t had and I wanted to make sure it wasn’t harmful.  Strange because I had been doing some energetic type work as part of my work as a physical therapist www.centerIMT.com.

I returned and started to understand that this feeling was the Chi energy field; I came to look for it and when I felt it, I knew it was doing something good.  I wasn’t sure what it was but I liked the effect.  I felt more relaxed and this sense of ease lasted for hours and even into the rest of the week.

I ended up taking Ming Tong Gu’s level one and two workshops and was progressing in my QiGong practice.  Then I had a series of accidents including being hit by a car and twisting ankles.  It was a strange time for me.  Now I realize this would have been a good time to continue with my QiGong, but I felt demoralized and quit doing it.  I actually stopped doing it mostly, for the next few years.

During these years, my friend Patty would ask me almost weekly if I had done my QiGong; Usually I just laughed it off; but I stared realizing I would go back to it at some point.  It took years before I would return.

We’ll September 2009 was approaching and some things I had read, indicated that this was an important time, and that much change was in store for the planet and for people.  I saw that Ming Tong Gu was doing a healing circle at UCSD in mid September 2009 so I decided to go.  He had a two day workshop going that weekend and I ended up taking the 2nd day’s class with my fiance, Jen.  We agreed to do our QiGong daily again.

Something Ming Tong said really hit home.  He told us how doing QiGong on a regular basis was a way to get “the secret” of “The Secret”. He encouraged us to try QiGong instead of our usual practice of meditation or relaxation and see what happens.  Well we did and that is when our world changed.  I mean we had things going pretty well but September 2009 was when our office was having difficult times.  We had 3 front office people leave the office and 3 physical therapists leave as well for a variety of reasons; re-locating etc.  Bottom line the world was looking a bit unsettled.  Somehow I didn’t feel worried but I thought it was a very good time to do QiGong on a daily basis.  I had no idea all the changes to come.

Since re-starting QiGong we have had so many wonderful things come into our lives I’m sure I’m leaving some out.  We had our friend and colleague Kim Burnham, PhD www.kimberlyburnhamphd.com contact us from the east coast and she started working with us. Kim brought amazing results to our patients and inspired us to learn a method she was using called Matrix Energetics. We had news that one and possibly two physical therapists were moving to San Diego and wanted to join our team. Kim told us about Richard Bartlett, DC, ND and his classes and method Matrix Energetics and we took his classes in Coronado, CA.  This truly blessed us with a turbo-charge of our Integrative Manual Therapy work and our daily QiGong practice.  Our patients started responding even quicker and with more complete recovery than with our Integrative Manual Therapy methods; and this was amazing to us as the Integrative Manual Therapy was already a powerful method for us.  We were attracted to some QiGong practitioners from Encinitas, namely Federico Garcia at Qifieldtherapy.com and we started bringing him in for weekly classes at Mission Hills Physical Therapy.  This has brought much healing and health for ourselves, our patients and our friends.

Basically, since starting Qi Gong with Master Ming Tong Gu and Federico Garcia, our lives have been enriched and blessed in ways too numerous and varied to fully express.  We thought we were positive and hopeful before qigong but the difference is amazing.  Heartfelt thanks to Ming Tong Gu and Federico Garcia as well as Richard Bartlet.  I also want to thank with great appreciation and respect my good friend and teacher Sharon Giammatteo, PT, PhD whose work Integrative Manual Therapy started me on my journey.  Sharon told me that her purpose was to help people get healthy enough to get on their own surfboard so they could take their own wave.  This she has done for me and any thanks would not be complete without thanking her and her team at CenterIMT.

I can admit that in the past I have been sold snake oil. I have a whole cabinet full of “miracle cures” and another spilling over with various prescriptions from doctors.  I gave up on both a long time ago, especially about 3 years ago when my MS was constantly flaring up, each time robbing me of the use of my legs and landing me in the hospital for months.  Ralph and company were able to ease the pain in my lower back, which in the hospital required IV pain meds.  This was tremendous, but the most progress came 5 months ago when I eliminated gluten from my diet.  Ralph provided me with a wealth of information and research from highly regarded medical journals.  This eased my neuroscience-oriented mind, and the snake oil alarm in my head never went off, there were no red flags, and instead of the fake hope I’d experienced before, I felt real hope.

My life began 26 years ago, took a turn at 20 with my MS diagnosis, stalled completely 3 years ago, and began again 5 months ago.  I remember telling Ralph after being gluten free 2-3 months that I felt I had already made up for the 2 1/2 – 3 years I was in and out of the hospital.  Within a month of going gluten free, I knew something wonderful was happening – life was livable again, constant fatigue replaced by constant energy, and the spasticity in my legs I had experienced daily was gone.  Even my neurologist, who does not speak in non-pharmaceutical terms, could not find any trace of it.  His response to all of these positive changes after gluten-free: “You can’t argue with results like this!”.

Doctors and MS groups look at me with jaws dropped to the floor.  I make sure and tell them about having gone gluten-free. I see such a high likelihood for fast improvement that I recommend at least trying a gluten-free diet to all my friends with MS, other neurological problems, and even those who are healthy but say they “could be better.”  It can’t hurt to try, and you never know just how amazing the results might be.
